Aim: This study was conducted with the aim the relationship between degree of dependence of patients and the risk of falls.
Methods: Total field under survey of the sectional research is consists of 946 hospital patients in the east of the State Hospital Turkey between September-February 2016, and the sample is consists of 420 patients who were chosen with the group weighting method. The data was collected by using “Descriptive Form”, “Itaki Fall Risk Scale” and “Barthel’s Index”. The evaluation of data was used average, percentage, t test, Ki-Square and analysis of variance.
Results: It is determined that 70% of the patients have chronic medical history and 46.2% of these patients are suffering hypertension. It is determined that for 82.4% of patients, fall risk is high, 50.2% of the patients were moderate BI. A statistically significant difference was found when the risk of falling compared to the degree of dependency of patients in the study was compared (p<0.05). The risk of falls of the higher dependency level is also increasing.
Conclusion: Positive significance is determined between the fall risk and dependency degree. In the light of these results, it is suggested that fall risk of the patients should be evaluated multifactorially and necessary precautions should be taken.
