DETERMINATION OF NURSING STUDENTS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS CLINICAL PRACTICE AND CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS: A CORRELATIONAL STUDY
Abstract
Introduction: Determining the attitudes of nursing students to clinical practices and their perceptions of clinical instructors is essential for contributing to the identification of factors affecting students' motivation and performance in clinical practice, both negatively and positively. This, in turn, aids in exploring solutions to address potential challenges. The purpose of this study is to ascertain nursing students' perceptions about clinical practice and clinical instructors in this context.
Materials and Methods: The population of this descriptive and correlational study consisted of all students enrolled in a nursing department at a university, and all students who consented to attend were added in the sample. Data for the study were gathered using a Personal Information Form, the Nursing Students’ Attitude towards Clinical Practice Scale (NS-ACPS), and the Nursing Students’ Perceptions towards Instructor Care Scale (NS-PICS).
Results: The total score on the Attitude Scale towards Clinical Practice for Nursing Students was 97.93±19.10. The average total score on the Perceptions Scale of Nursing Students towards Instructor Care for students participating in the study was determined as 98.51±14.57.
Conclusion: Students' attitudes toward clinical practice and their assessments of the care they receive from their instructors are significantly and favorably correlated. As students' perceptions of instructor care increase, their positive attitudes towards clinical practice also increase.
