Use of neuman systems model in heart failure

Abstract

Nursing models determine the focal points and viewpoint of a nurse. The importance of conceptual models in nursing is that they bring a common sense to the basic concepts of nursing. Thus, it is of great importance to use a theory or model in practice to ensure this contribution. Theories provide a framework for nursing practices, offer a viewpoint to nurses and help them to take right decisions. Nurses use nursing care models based on nursing theories to protect and improve the public health and to make patients benefit from treatments. One of these models is the Neuman Systems Model. Neuman Systems is an appropriate model to provide a holistic approach towards patients and to guide the nursing practices as it pays importance to five major variables of the individual including physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual and developmental variables with its holistic, open system features adapted to goodness. In this model, how the system strikes a balance against the stressor is explained on the basis of system approach. On the other hand, heart failure which is one of the chronic diseases disturbing the balance of the individual is an important health problem. In this paper, the use of Neuman Systems Model in heart failure will be explained.
